So I was just thinking….

about the pro-choice phrase, “My body, my choice.”

It’s basically saying women should be able to do whatever they want with their body.

But if that’s true…. why aren’t more people standing up for a women’s right to prostitute herself? If she wants to sell her body for money, that’s her choice. And throughout American, this choice - nay - this RIGHT of her’s, is being denied. I mean, let’s not get to the root of the problem and actually try to understand why these women would put themselves in this horrible situation so we can try to help them…. let’s just make prostitution legal everywhere.

The case for making prostitution against the law begins with the premise that it’s exploitative and demeaning to women…. One of the first feminists, Elizabeth Cady Stanton, on the topic of abortion said, “When you consider that women have been treated as property, it is degrading to women that we should treat our children as property to be disposed of as we see fit.”

Hmmm….

In my mind, if the issue was really about having the right to do whatever you want with your body, we would have more advocates for making prostitution legal.

Because by allowing prostituion to remain illegal, you are accepting the fact that you cannot do whatever you want with your body…. but no one seems to care about that.

Maybe this “right” to do whatever you want with your body is not the real issue we need to be focusing on in the abortion debate.

I’m pro-choice and I absolutely think prostitution should be legal.

A person should have whatever job they want. I fully support the legalization of prostitution (for ANY gender).

If a person CHOOSES to make sex their living (be it prostitution or porn) it is in NO WAY degrading. There are very powerful women who are proud of their sexuality and they made the personal choice to make a living from it.

Prostitution should be highly regulated and monitored. Both workers and clients should be given: background checks, STI/STD tests, a clean safe environment, protection and contraception.

It should be taxed, adding new revenue to each state.

And, it should especially have full health benefits to ensure the health and safety of the workers and their families.

I do NOT support slut shaming or the policing of other people’s sex lives. If someone wants to have sex for fun, love or a living, I support them. As long as it is their choice and they are being safe, I have no say in what they do.

You should maybe read up on the facts of legalized prostitution and how it actually EMPOWERS the workers. You can remove the pimp aspect completely and legalization of anything helps to lesson the black market (which in some countries sees the selling of men, women and children for forced prostitution, which is not the same thing as professional prostitution).

So lets recap. I support abortion AND prostitution. It is a person’s choice what they do with their body, and I don’t see how anyone can feel so special that they get to police the lives and choices of others.

Most pro-choicers and feminists that I know support legal prostitution.

I always enjoy when Pro-lifers attempt to be clever and trap pro-choicers lol.

You fail OP. I agree with everything Missa said.

RIGHTS FOR ALL THE SEX WORKERS.

At the time it was posted, I honestly did not think this happened that often.

But it turns out it does! People try to trap other people in contradictions all the time! And it turns out, every time, that the original people have NO CLUE what their opponents believe, and that the other people have in fact thought about their position enough that they are at least basically consistant.

WHO KNEW, YOUR OPPONENTS AREN’T STUPID! Well, unless they make that argument, at least.

(Oh and NB, there are feminists that think abortion should be legal and prostitution shouldn’t be and they do have reasoning to explain the “contradiction”. Tumblr doesn’t tend to attract, for lack of a better word, sex-negative feminists, so you probably aren’t going to encounter them, but though I disagree with their reasoning they are not stupid people. Again, unlike you.)
